Stellar Sea LionEumetopias jubatus

Habitat
Found around the rim of the north pacific ocean from california to northern japan.
Description
Adult males average 2.8m in length, and weigh an average 566kg, while females are smaller at 2.3m in length and 263kg in weight. They are opportunistic feeders, foraging mostly near the shore and over the continental shelf for fish and cephalopods such as squid and octopus.
Threats To
The population has been declining rapidly, particularly in the u.s., where the numbers dropped from 230,000 in 1965 to 43,200 in 1994. They have since declined by at least 18%. The exact cause for this decline is thought to be due to a reduced food supply, particularly of walleye pollock, caused by intensive commercial over-fishing of groundfish stocks in the region.
