Habitat
Found near rivers in the humid forest of south america.
Description
An ungulate mammal with a bulky body, short legs, a short tail, and a head characterized by a short, flexible proboscis, small eyes, and erect ears. They feed on leaves, fruit, and other vegetation. tapirs are 1.8 to 2.4 m. long and stand about 1 m. at the shoulder and they may weigh more that 270 kg.
Threats To
Loss of habitat and hunting for meat and hide.
