Information on Animal Cruelty

Animal Cruelty basically refers to animal suffering and harming them for reasons, other than self defense. To be more precise, it can be killing animals for food or for their fur. The information on animal cruelty needs to be shared with the masses in order to minimize their sufferings.

We have a dual opinion about this issue across the world. As per Animal Welfare Society, there is nothing wrong in killing animals for human purposes, such as food, clothing, research and entertainment, provided it should be done with minimal pain for the being. This has been opposed by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), stating you cannot treat animals as commodity. Since animals are living beings, provided they do not talk, it becomes utmost important for us to treat them with proper care and make everyone aware of their existence. This can be done by circulating all the necessary information we have on animal cruelty and stopping it.

What is animal cruelty?

Animal cruelty refers to the various harmful actions against animals, which could be neglect or purposely causing physical harm. Neglect could be either simple or cruel. Simple neglect is unintentional, whereas intentional neglect is knowingly depriving an animal off food, shelter, water, veterinary care or even torturing, mutilation or killing an animal. Cruelty to animals happens abundantly across the globe, but nothing is done against it, as there are no cases registered.

Signs of Animal Abuse:

If you think that someone's animal is abused, you need to watch for the following signs: thinness, wounds, limping, and infections on the body, food and water bowls are constantly empty or not present around, animals being very timid or showing aggressive behavior. Other signs of abuse could be, the animal is kept outside in bad weather, has patches on the body and the fur/coat is damaged and infected.

Psychology of animal abusers:

Any person, who intentionally harms animals, is a threat to the society as well. Such people need to be either reported to police or referred to a psychologist, if the violence is not of a serious nature. Information on serial killers has brought into light, the fact that they all started with abusing animals. If you see the same with children, they need to be taken to a psychologist immediately.

Education Children:

Children should be made aware of how to take care of their pets and also about animal cruelty. A topic on the same needs to be included in their school syllabus. You need to also tell them, how they can handle the situation and why it is wrong?

Reporting Animal Cruelty:

If you see any such sighs of animal abuse, you need to report the incident to the local police department. Small children who abuse animals needs to be reported to the school principal, a psychologist, parents of the child or even the police. Unfortunately, animal cruelty is not a crime in most of the countries. If you still feel that an animal cruelty case was not handled properly, you can write to the government with your views of protest.
