Animal Rights Information

Animals are living creatures. They completely deserve to be treated as living .They have feelings, and as a result deserve a life, free from torture, exploitation and slaughter. Various laws have been enforced to protect the basic right of animals to live. Information on animal rights or animal liberation broadly specifies that animals should be considered and given the same kind of treatment as humans. We will have a look at the information on animal rights.

  • Many philosophers agree that animals should be considered as persons, and they should also not be exploited for food, clothing, research and entertainment

  • Some also agree to the fact that animals should not be treated as commodity or property, this even if they are treated that way is the most polite possible way

  • Scholars like Alan Dershowitz and Laurence Tribe have widely supported the idea of awarding rights to animals in 2008.

  • Renowned lawyer Clayton Ruby had commented on the same movement stating that the movement has become so huge that it can be compared to the gay rights movement, which happened 25 years earlier.

  • Animal law is quite popular in most of the law schools across the world. In the United States, 118 law schools teach animal law. It is also routinely covered in universities that offer applied ethics courses and philosophy

Although animal rights have a universal appeal, we have a few critics as well, who oppose this. Here's what the critics has to say:

  • Roger Scruton writes that since only humans have duties, only they are liable to have rights

  • Critics also argue that animals cannot enter into a social contract or make choices for themselves, and therefore cannot possess any rights

  • There is another argument that states that there is nothing wrong in using animals for human welfare or as a resource, provided they do not suffer. This view has also been included in the animal welfare program.

  • There was a major agitation within the animal right movement as well, when a group of activist destroyed a few fur farms and animal laboratories.

Why right to animals?

The question is, are animals right holders? Are the rights for animals, similar to humans? In ancient times, many religious and cultural traditions gave a very high regard to animals. They were treated as divine creatures. They were not only given equal, but a higher regard of moral status. For Example, the Hindu religion has a deep respect and honor for cows or cattle. They also worship Gods along with animals. Despite this, when we look at the history of human civilization, animals are always subjected to demolition, used for entertainment as well as consumption. We are yet to come to a conclusion, whether animal rights would get a universal nod and whether animals will get good ethical treatment? The information on animals' rights will come a long way to create an uproar among the masses and also to create a balance in our ecology.
